Allston Real Estate

Originally a cattle town in the 19th century, Allston grew into a lively residential and commercial hub, heavily influenced by the student populations of nearby Boston University and Harvard’s extension campus. Over time, it became known for its affordability, diversity, and vibrant arts and music scene. The neighborhood is packed with triple-decker homes, older multi-family houses, and newer luxury apartment complexes. Many buildings are rental properties catering to students and young professionals, giving the area a transient yet energetic feel. Allston’s main strip along Harvard Avenue is lined with international restaurants, dive bars, and music venues. Popular spots include Deep Ellum and Lulu’s for craft beer, Twin Donuts for a classic breakfast, and Brighton Music Hall for live performances. Nightlife is a big draw, with dive bars like The Silhouette and highenergy spots like Wonder Bar keeping the area busy late into the night. The neighborhood’s population is primarily made up of students, artists, and young professionals. Allston is also famous for “Allston Christmas,” a nickname for the chaotic September 1st moving day, when discarded furniture floods the sidewalks as leases turn over citywide. Public transportation is accessible via the Green Line (B branch) along Commonwealth Avenue, with bus routes like the 57 and 66 providing additional connections to Cambridge and downtown.
