A historic subsection of Roxbury, Fort Hill was once a Revolutionary War-era fortification site. Over time, it developed into a primarily residential neighborhood known for its community feel and beautiful historic homes. Fort Hill features classic brownstones, triple-decker homes, and some larger single-family Victorians. Unlike other parts of the city undergoing rapid development, Fort Hill has retained much of its historic charm. The neighborhood is quieter compared to others but still offers cultural attractions like Highland Park, where the historic Fort Hill Tower provides sweeping views of Boston. Fort Hill has become popular among young professionals and families looking for a more affordable alternative to pricier neighborhoods. A fun fact is that the historic Roxbury Puddingstone used in local architecture is unique to this part of the city. Public transportation includes the Orange Line at Roxbury Crossing and multiple bus routes, including the 41 and 15.
