South Boston Real Estate

Originally a working-class Irish neighborhood, South Boston played a key role in Boston’s industrial history with its shipyards and factories. Over the last two decades, it has seen significant gentrification, attracting young professionals and developers while still retaining its strong sense of community. South Boston features a mix of classic triple-decker homes, old brick row houses, and modern luxury condo developments, particularly near the waterfront and Broadway. The neighborhood still has a strong residential feel, with older family homes coexisting alongside new high-rises. Popular attractions include Castle Island, a historic fort with scenic waterfront views, and M Street Beach, which becomes a social hub in the summer. The area is also known for its Irish pubs, such as L Street Tavern (featured in Good Will Hunting) and trendy dining spots like Lincoln Tavern and Capo. Southie’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the largest in the country. The neighborhood has transitioned from being predominantly Irish working-class to a mix of young professionals, families, and longtime residents. Public transportation includes the Red Line at Broadway and Andrew stations, along with bus routes 7, 9, 10, and 11 connecting to downtown and the Seaport.
