West End

Once a thriving immigrant neighborhood, the West End was largely demolished in the 1950s as part of an urban renewal project, leading to the construction of modern high-rises and office buildings. Today, it is a mix of luxury apartments, hospitals, and entertainment venues. The neighborhood consists mostly of high-rise apartment buildings and modern condo complexes, contrasting sharply with its historic neighbors. Some of the area’s older structures, like the West End Museum, preserve the history of what was once a dense, working-class community. TD Garden, home to the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins, is the major attraction in the area, alongside bars and restaurants catering to sports fans like The Harp and West End Johnnie’s. The neighborhood is popular among professionals working in nearby hospitals and government offices. A fun fact is that the West End was once home to Leonard Nimoy, the actor famous for playing Spock in Star Trek. Public transportation includes the Green Line and Orange Line at North Station, as well as commuter rail access.
